Ladies, are you wanting to look your absolute BEST on your wedding day?? Of course, we know that answer! Who doesn’t want to feel confident, beautiful and overflowing with joy?! It’s such a special, memorable day for you and your soon-to-be hubby.
As you prepare for your wedding and starting thinking through how you’ll have your makeup done, you’ll need to select a makeup artist! If you’re wondering what to consider, how to select your perfect makeup artist, and what your wedding look should be, look no further!! We’ve brought in Erica of Erica Colon Makeup Artistry LLC to answer your questions and help you know what to do and share some images from brides she’s served (full transparency – they aren’t our weddings).
1. Tell us a little about yourself. How did you become a makeup artist?
I am the Owner/Lead Makeup Artist at Erica Colon Makeup Artistry LLC. I am based in Lancaster County, PA but I provide on-site services wherever they are needed. A little background information about myself: I am a God-Fearing Christian, a wife, and mother. I have been married for almost 10 years (in June) and we have an 8-year-old daughter. When I’m not working and spending time with my family you can find me either at church or the gym, where I train as a powerlifter. I have always loved makeup ever since I could remember and was obsessed with red lipstick. My mom had a signature red lipstick she would wear and a few of my favorite singers and actresses did as well. I’ve always been artistic and enjoyed coloring and painting, etc. I began to experiment with makeup in high school and my love for it just grew. So, once I gave birth to my daughter I decided this was something I wanted to pursue as a career, while not missing out on her important years.
2. What’s your favorite thing about working with brides and bridal parties?
It’s always something new. Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own ways. They have different personalities and styles and I just love that. I love working on all the different canvases that sit in my chair. Everyone has unique features, face shapes, skin textures, etc. and I just love to emphasize that and bring out their natural beauty.
3. How far in advance should a bride book you as her makeup artist?
Most brides book me within 6-12 months of their wedding, however, I always recommend if they have a specific vendor (not necessarily me) that they want to work with, they book them immediately.

4. What are the most important things for a bride to consider as she is determining both the look and makeup artist for her wedding day?
I always recommend brides going for looks that bring out their best and favorite features. I also always recommend going for timeless and classic looks as they never go out of style and you will most likely not regret it looking at your wedding albums for years to come. As for choosing the makeup artist for her special day, I suggest looking for artists that specialize in the type of look that they are hoping for on your special day. For example, I specialize in natural makeup looks. I get booked by my brides 90% of the time because I do natural makeup looks. If you want full glam, highly contoured, and highlighted (Kardashian style), while I can execute that, I would not be your artist as that is not the style I specialize in.

5. Would you recommend brides have a trial run for their makeup?
I always recommend trials. Trials allow you and the Makeup Artist to properly communicate and go over in detail exactly what it is you want for your wedding. It allows you to try different styles if you are on the fence about certain looks.
6. How long will it take the bridal party and bride to get their makeup done on a wedding day?
I allow 45 minutes to an hour for the bride and 30 minutes for the bridal party and attendants.
7. Do you have any recommendations that help brides feel more confident and beautiful on their big day?
Your wedding day will be one of the most photographed days in your lifetime and you will have those pictures and videos to look back on to remember the happiest day of your life. As a professional makeup artist, I will ensure you look like the best version of yourself not only in person but also in your photos and videos.
