Don’t say you haven’t thought about it. We all love a good dance sesh, when the dancefloor is packed and all the guests are out of their seats and letting loose. It’s the epitome of having all of your favorite people, all together enjoying the moment.
Back up a few months and you’re starting to think through the planning and how to make this all happen. The key? An awesome DJ! If you’re like us, you’ve been to a wedding where you maybe weren’t feeling the style of music and the vibe was left lacking. Or, you’ve experienced a wedding where the transitions were choppy and guests were left wondering what was happening because the emcee didn’t announce it. This is something you definitely want to avoid when it comes to planning your dream wedding!

1. Tell us a little about yourself. How did you become a DJ?
Owner and principal DJ of DJ Mast Productions, I have been DJing since 2009 and have been full-time since 2015. With a history of music starting in 2003 and performing as a drummer in a touring band, transitioning into DJing shared many skills with drumming. I began heavily involved in the club scene as a resident DJ at a club in State College, PA during college at Penn State. A main part of DJ Mast Productions’ mission is to provide the first and primary need that was not being met. We care about each client’s unique music tastes that matches the mood and demographics of the guests and venue space, while performing organized MCing and skilled DJ blending/mixing.
2. What’s your favorite thing about being a wedding DJ?
My favorite aspect of DJing weddings and special events is making all of the moving parts of your event a cohesive experience. We want your entire day to reflect your preference in music, lighting and energy. We love making experiences that create lasting forever-memories for you and your guests.
3. Why is it beneficial for a couple to hire a DJ?
Not only can a DJ fulfill your dance needs, a great DJ keeps things flowing, your guests informed on what to expect next and where to be, amplification for spoken word during your ceremony and other special words during the reception. A good DJ not only picks the right songs for each specific moment (following your crowd’s energy), but they also create seamless dance experiences and cues the perfect part of songs for introductions and gives you the peace of mind that your special songs will be exactly what they should be.

4. What four things should a couple look for when selecting their DJ? What about their service package?
-Find a DJ company who prioritizes you and your wishes above all other internal and external influences
-Pick a personality you can feel really good about. This also means knowing what specific DJ you will be working with
-Prioritize professionalism, organization and honesty
-Understand what lighting and audio the DJ actually provides. Make sure it is consistent with their presentation of packages
5. How far in advance should a couple book their DJ?
For the best vendors in general, when you get engaged, start connecting with the most attractive DJ options at the earliest point possible. Some couples get engaged early on, so the earlier you can book your DJ, you can lock in the best rate and find the best dates available.
6. What do you do to help make sure the guests are enjoying themselves and get them dancing?
DJ Mast Productions watches social interactions throughout social hour and the meal to give them the best prediction of the energy and cohesiveness of the crowd. This helps us decide where to start and where to go with the crowd. We do not use the same playlist for any event, your experience is entirely customized. Being professionally energetic and caring is a key attribute that puts DJ Mast Productions above the rest. We are EXCITED about your day and making the party fantastic.
7. What should a couple do to ensure there’s plenty of power or appropriate electrical outlets for your equipment?
DJ Mast Productions puts details in your contract that detail power and space requirements for each setup. We make it easy to understand what you need to have in place, and have been to nearly every venue within a 50 mile radius of Lancaster, PA (and beyond). If we have any concerns on the power delivery to the venue space, we will work through the details to make sure it is good to go! Essentially, make sure there is a dedicated 20amp circuit (single circuit is minimum) close to each DJ booth.
